Boost for tourism sector in Uttarakhand

Several measures have been adopted to boost tourism sector in the hill state of Uttarakhand.

Generally three kinds of tourists visit Uttarakhand every year. They can be divided into Spiritual tourists, Adventure tourists and wedding tourists.

For the pilgrims, a huge amount of ropeways has been installed. 12.9 km of ropeway connecting Sonprayag with Kedarnath dham has been created at a cost of ₹4081 crores. There are plans to connect Govindghat with Hemkund Sahib which spans approximately 12.4 kms costing ₹2730 crores. Special care have been taken to provide safety to those spritual tourists.

Winter pilgrimage has been introduced for the first time and thus tourists can tour the state across the twelve months a year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself visited Mukhwa – the winter abode to Goddess Ganga. This, he did to encourage tourists visiting the state even in winter season.

A total of 83 peaks has been opened to encourage mountaineering in the state.
