Campaigning is on full swing in Assam

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) today claimed that NDA will retain power in Assam winning nearly 100 seats.

This was stated by the former Chief Minister and the Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the incumbent Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on two separate occasions.

Earlier senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while campaigning for his party, lambasted Himanta Biswa Sarma government by levelling the incumbent Chief minister of Assam as the “Most corrupted Chief Minister of the country.”

“People of Assam are fed up with corruption of the ten years old BJP government in the state,” said Rahul Gandhi.

Reacting to this Assam Chief Minister called Rahul Gandhi as an “insane” creature.

When asked about the implementation of UCC in the state the Chief Minister said that not only UCC but there are many things which will be implemented. Immigration impact act, Bill against Love Jihad are some of the examples of those.

Sarma called Gaurav Gogoi as an “escapist”. “Gaurav Gogoi will not be able to defend his seat. And even if he does he will run away,” said the Chief Minister.

A roadshow was held in Jorhat under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma to boost the confidence of BJP workers.

NDA, in Assam, includes BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front. Whereas Congress allies include Assam Jati Parishad, Raijor Dal, CPI(M), CPI(M-L) and All Party Hill Leader’s conference.

Assam goes into polls on April 9 with the results scheduled to be announced on May 4
