Leander Paes happy on joining BJP

A day after joining Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) ace tennis icon Leander Paes met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in New Delhi.

Sources revealed that both Paes and Modi were happy over the meeting. P. M. Modi took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to praise Paes and his contribution to Tennis and sporting world as a whole. Paes also praised Prime Minister while briefing the media.

Not only Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Paes also praised Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president Nitin Nabin. “Today is a great day of my life,” said Paes.

On Tuesday Paes officially joined the BJP in presence of Union Ministers Kieren Rijiju and Sukanta Majumdar.

Paes, however, joined politics way back in 2021 with Mamata Banerjee ‘s TMC.

Paes expressed his gratitude to the BJP leaders for giving him the chance to serve Indian sports, sports education and the youths.

Rijiju expressed optimism that Paes will play a big role within the saffron outfit. And also that Khelo India movement will gain momentum after Paes’s joining the ruling party.

Paes is the most successful tennis icon of India till now. Winning the bronze medal in the men’s singles in Olympics way back in 1996.

He received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award apart from Arjuna award, Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan
