Sarfaraz Ahmed calls it a day

In a twist former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Former Pakistan wicket keeper will be remembered for guiding his team to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. Especially that victory came against their arch-rivals India in the finals.

Number of times he represented and led Pakistan

He played in every format of the gentleman’s game. 54 tests, 117 ODIs and 61 T20s. Not only that he led his side in 100 international matches. The break up is 13 test matches, 50 ODI s and 37 T20s. He scored 6,164 international runs with 6 tons and 35 fifties across all formats. As a wicket keeper he has 315 catches and 56 stumping to his credit.

Milestone achieved

Pakistan became the number one ranked team in T20s under his captaincy. He led his side to 11 consecutive T20 series victories which was a world record. In those he captained his side to six clean sweeps. Against the West Indies (2016 and 2018) , Sri Lanka (2017), Australia, New Zealand and Scotland (all in 2018).

Unique record as Pakistan skipper

He was the first Pakistan skipper to lift the ICC Champions Trophy and the only captain to win ICC trophies both in senior as well as junior levels. In 2006 he led Pakistan Under 19 to victory in the ICC under 19 world cup. “From guiding Pakistan to victory in the under 19 world cup to ICC Champions Trophy in the senior level every moments was so special. I am thankful to everyone PCB, my family, the crowds and every others,” said Sarfaraz. “I have always tried to play fearless cricket and built an united team. Seeing players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali emerging from my captaincy will always be a moment to cherish,” added Sarfaraz
