In a nice gesture every players of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be wearing a black armband while playing their matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
It may be recalled that Eleven people were killed while many were injured in stampede while enjoying RCB’s maiden title win at the Chinnaswamy stadium on June 4, last year.
After several attempts RCB finally annexed the IPL crown last year. This win made their star batter and former Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s dream come true.
RCB players will be wearing jersey number 11 during practice session and while playing they will switch over to black armband.
Not only that, eleven seats in the Chinnaswamy stadium will be left vacant as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
Following this tragic incident no matches were awarded in this stadium. Important tournaments like ICC women’s 50 overs ODI World Cup, T20 cricket World Cup were hosted by India but Chinnaswamy stadium didn’t get a single match to host.
After obtaining the green signal from the Government appointed expert committee did government of Karnataka issue a go ahead and thereby after a long time Bengaluru got the right to host matches.
