Carolina Marin calls it a day

In a major development in the sporting world, former world number one in women’s badminton and also the former Olympic gold medalist Carolina Marin of Spain calls it a day stunning all her fans.

“My journey ends here,” this is how she took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce her decision.

Marin, 32 years of age, was plagued by multiple injuries in the recent past. Defending her gold medal in Tokyo 2020 (held in 2021 due to Corona pandemic) she sustained a knee injury. It took time for her to recover. In Paris olympics in 2024 she suffered yet another injury from which she is yet to recover.

32 year old Marin has received a wildcard entry to play in the European championship scheduled to be held in her home city of Huelva. However, she made it clear that she will be skipping the tournament.

Marin thanked everyone. Her fans, coach and support staff for being with her in this “amazing journey” of hers.

Apart from clinching the Olympic gold in 2016 at Rio de Janeiro, Marin was the winner of three world championship and also lifted a number of European championship titles.
