Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the French Open this year due to wrist injury on his right hand.
The 22 year Spaniard became the youngest to win a career Grand Slam when he won the Australian Open earlier this year.
Prior to his Australian Open win he was emerged champion at Rolland Garos for the last two years. He also lifted the Wimbledon and U. S. Open trophies twice each.
Not only the French Open he has withdrawn from the Italian Open as well. Italian Open held just before the start of the French Open. Alcaraz was also the defending champions at the Italian Open.
The world number two sustained injury while playing Barcelona Open first round match earlier this month. Inspite of winning that match he didn’t play the second round match and subsequently withdrew from the tournament.
However, he did attend the Laureus World Sports Awards held in Madrid where he was awarded the best sportsperson of the year.
” It’s a complicated moment for me, but I’m sure we’ll come out stronger from here.” he wrote on X , formerly Twitter.
After winning the Australian Open he clinched another trophy at Doha and that was it for this year. He won’t be able to take part in major clay court events.
Just like Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic rivalry of the yesteryears today’s men’s tennis is witnessing the rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner of Italy. Either of these players are lifting the grand slam trophies.
