Group B consists of another co-hosts Canada, Switzerland, Qatar and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Let’s take a look into the four teams very closely.
Canada : The team is termed as the golden generation of Canadian football. Players like Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David are the ones upon whom all eyes will be set. Led by their coach Jesse Marsch the team has emerged as the giant killer. The team offers a high speed football coupled with a high level of athletecism. Their coach Jesse Marsch has brought aggressiveness into the beautiful game. The team has reached an all time high in FIFA rankings. They occupied 30th position the FIFA rankings. Their defence is rock solid and are capable of counter attacks. However , the team has certain drawbacks. They are quite incapable of converting their chances into goals. Their bench strength is very weak. And thus , if any key player gets injured the team may face a problem in finding a suitable replacement. This is also the reason that the team will be an injury prone one. As over dependence on key players might cause injury to them. As co-hosts the team will be receiving the support of the local fans and there will be a chance of increasing revenues. With the participation of young players proper academies might be set up which can add strength to the reserved players. There are some positive things coming up as identification of talent might increase the bench strength. Having said that the team lacks mental strength which is needed to face the knock out matches.
Switzerland : Ranked 19th in the latest FIFA rankings, the best performance of Switzerland was playing in the Quarter finals of the 1934, ’38 and ’54 world cups. 1954 world cup was hosted by Switzerland and in the quarter finals the team played Austria only to lose by 5-7 that match remained the higher scoring match even today. In the World Cup 2006 Switzerland created a new world cup record of becoming the first team to be ousted without conceding a single goal. Losing to Ukraine via Tie-breakers in the round of 16. In the European Cups the nation has the distinction of beating reigning world champions France and Italy
Qatar : Due to long term training Qatar has developed a quality bunch of players who are capable of dealing with other world class players. Their players spend quality time training together and as a result of which a sence of family like culture has developed between them. Consecutive Asian Cup wins has bolstered their confidence to several times. Being the richest country in the world they can hire world class coach and build a nice team. However, it is a very small country and thus the population is very low. Hence, you have to select players from a limited amount of people. Qatar needs to play against world class teams to gain the total exposure. Unfortunately it doesn’t happen and thus the team isn’t confident enough while taking on world class teams and in a big occasion like the World Cup. Qatar hosted and played 2022 world cup and as a result of which gained valuable experience. They can utilise it while facing big fishes. They have a domestic football league called Qatar Stars League. They can utilise this competition to prepare good players for the future. Their business tycoons own a number of European clubs the young and budding footballers can be pushed to those clubs to get those valueable experience. Following the success in the Asian Cup in 2019 and 2023 and hosting 2022 world cup a lot of expectations might come up from them. This may jeopardize their performance in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Playing away from home might result in inconsistency. They are currently ranked 55 by FIFA.
Bosnia and Herzegovina : In 1992 when Yougoslavia split into multiple independent countries Bosnia and Herzegovina became one such nation. The small country qualified for the world cup for the first time in 2014 and this will be their second adventure to the world cup. On the way to qualify for the world cup they ensured the end of three good teams Romania, Wales and four times world champions Italy. They are currently ranked 65 by FIFA.
