Fonseca won Alcaraz ‘s heart despite losing

World number one and top seeded Carlos Alcaraz of Spain began his adventure into the Miami open with a fine win over the teenage sensation Joyo Fonseca.

The final score read 6-4, 6-4

However, the victory wasn’t easy. Fonseca fought fearlessly and this spirited performance gave the Spaniard every run for his money.

Alcaraz, displayed a true sense of his sportsman spirit by appreciating his rival Fonseca, “I know how good Fonseca is and thereby remained focused on every shots,” said Alcaraz. “My serves acted as my secret weapon today,” added the Spanish legend.

Fonseca lost to the top seeded Alcaraz and world number two Jannic Sinner in successive matches and tournaments. The match against Sinner was also a close fought encounter. Sinner had to get the better of Fonseca by two tie-breakers. That match along with today’s one produced some sort of delicious tennis.

Alcaraz praised Fonseca even in the post match press conference. Recalling the match against Sinner, Alcaraz said, “There are some areas for Fonseca which are needed to improve and i am confident he will do that. Playing number one and two in successive matches is not a matter of joke. “
